Cloud
Intelligence in the Cloud is transforming the world and human life at a pace beyond imagination.
Whether it be recommender models for various businesses, or video analytics, or cloud-based services, applications are emerging at a rapid pace and designing hardware to efficiently support them on the cloud is important. Efficiently utilizing the hardware infrastructure to obtain high performance and energy-efficiency is important for sustainable computing.
Edge
This thrust focuses on EdgeAI, a new paradigm meant to help achieving the large-scale deployment of AI/ML techniques on edge devices targeting Internet-of-Things (IoT) applications.
The research in this thrust aims at developing new learning models, algorithms, and prototypes that address important challenges of edge computing such as hardware- and energy-constrained IoT devices, distributed training and inference across multiple IoT devices, data security and privacy. This thrust core activities will help enable the seamless and strong integration between the cloud and the physical world.
Applications
This is the thrust where all of the essential contributions of the cloud and edge thrusts finally interact with humans.
The applications thrust is the ultimate realization of the innovations in the other thrusts; research here demonstrates how impacts at the edge and cloud translate into revolutionary changes in how humans interact with physical spaces and digital systems to achieve their joint goals.
