Core Advantages

Cross-Domain Expertise
Collaborate with faculty and researchers working across the full technology stack – from nano-scale circuits to large-scale software systems – enabling holistic solutions for intelligent applications.

Cutting-Edge Research Access
Gain early exposure to advancements in three critical technical areas:

  • Cloud: Numerous applications and edge systems are emerging, but an efficient smart cloud is necessary to support them, thus the Cloud thrust is intertwined with Edge and Applications thrusts. We focus on workload-driven and workload-aware design of cloud systems.
  • Edge: The Edge thrust works synergistically with the Cloud and Applications thrusts to address the challenges involved in enabling the widespread deployment of deep learning on networked edge devices (e.g., resource scarcity, energy efficiency, security/privacy etc.), thus making the cloud-edge computing continuum a reality.
  • Applications: Applications embody requirements related to latency and responsiveness, power and energy, correctness and accuracy, and privacy and security. At the same time, the edge and cloud resources are finite and shared. Applications must be subject to the physical and network constraints of the edge and cloud systems; collaboration and cooperation among applications must similarly navigate these constraints.

This interdisciplinary approach positions members at the forefront of intelligent systems engineering, with applications ranging from autonomous vehicles to adaptive IoT networks.
